Hey ya’ll. We are gearing up for a hot Chicago summer filled with BBQ’s, swimming and outdoor anything. That doesn’t mean we have forgotten about football! Can you believe that next year’s Super Bowl is going to be held in New York’s Jets and Giants stadium? Can anyone say freezing?

Until the season kicks off we are actively recruiting ladies like you who, like us, like football. We want to share and tell more stories of people like you. Last week Jackie emailed us…but didn’t include an email address. Jackie, if you are out there, will you send us an email at football101women@gmail.com? Thank you!

In the next few months we are going to introduce you to three ladies who have already contributed their stories. Till then, if you would like to share, please email us and let us know! We will be in touch as soon as we can.

Fans Tell All: Superbowl Predictions from Susan’s Sibling

While Coach Payton has many weapons on both sides of the ball, including QB Drew Brees, RBs Pierre Thomas and Heisman winner Reggie Bush, and DT Sedrick Ellis, I do not think it will be enough to stop the hard-charging Colts. The Saints will struggle to cover the Colts’ receivers (Wayne, Clark, Garcon, Collie), and I don’t think their pass rush will be able to significantly affect Peyton Manning, and that spells trouble. The Vegas line is that the Colts are 6-point favorites. I would gladly take the Colts giving the points. I believe the Saints will hang with the Colts for a while, but by the end of the 3rd Quarter, Peyton will have Payton scrambling to find a way to stop the Indy juggernaut, to no avail.

My prediction: Indianapolis Colts 38, New Orleans Saints 21.

Fans Tell All Part 2: Ex-NFL player dishes strategies on how to love the game and ideas on where to watch ‘em

FB 101: What do you think are 3-4 good resources/ways for women to learn football?
SB: One of the best ways is by some sort of common interest and rivalry and competition. “My school is better than your school; my city will beat your city.” Any sort of side competition makes the game more interesting. I don’t like to bet money but I do get people involved in Games like ESPN has the Pigskin Pick’em. It is a website that lets you set up teams an pick the winner of each game each week. There is a lot of luck in the guessing but several people who don’t know the game can still pick the winners. They can do there own research and still compete.

Fans Tell All Part 1: A little background about Stephen Bates

Prior to joining the radio industry, Stephen attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia. He earned Kodak All-American Honors as a stand out Defensive End and Outside Linebacker. Steve was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams of the National football League in the 10th round of the 1990 NFL Draft. Steve spent the next 5 years moving from team to team including 4 seasons in the Canadian Football League.

FB 101: How did playing football influence your life?
SB: Sports analogies are always used in life. “Get up dust yourself off and get back in the game”, I used them all the time as a sale manager. Because so much of what we have to do in life is a competition then I look at the opportunities when I can compete. Most people are not successful in competing if they have not done the proper preparation. Knowing what to do in a given situation and being prepared for the situation to arise. We had a saying in college… “Getting Better Every Day!” Either you are getting better or you’re falling behind.

Football 101 Women: Learn the Game from Sarah Spain: Part 2 of 2

I spoke to some really interesting guys in Tampa–legends like Mercury Morris, Tony Dorsett and Roger Staubach–but I think my favorite football player to interview is Bears cornerback Peanut Tillman. He’s a fantastic guy with a great sense of humor and he definitely knows how to work it for the cameras. He’s got a future in TV after his career is over, for sure. I did a really funny piece with him where I did a mock tryout for the Bears. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPmh4njOrsI)

Football 101 Women: Learn the Game from Sarah Spain: Part 1 of 2

I was only five years old when the ’85 Bears won it all, so for my whole life the city has been looking back on one of the greatest teams ever–one that I was too young to enjoy rooting for. As I got older, though, I began to really appreciate the real athleticism of football players. Speed, strength, toughness, jumping ability, hand-eye coordination–you gotta have it all to succeed in the NFL. Now I love it so much it frustrates me that football isn’t a women’s sport, too. I would’ve been a fantastic wide receiver in my prime…although now I think I’m more of a tight end.

Fantasy Football: A Woman’s Perspective

Written by Trisha P.
Believe it or not, my husband actually said, “Hey baby, I need you to draft my fantasy team for me, there is just no way I can get out of work in time.” I had no idea what kind of “fantasy” world I was about to enter, with team names like Mc Lovin and Rock-afire Explosion. I would share my husband’s team name, however my face gets red just thinking about it, and he’s much too old to have a name like that anyway.

I knew I was in trouble when I walked into a room full of stone-faced men, each with a laptop and pages, I mean PAGES, of research notes about their team hopefuls. I, on the other hand, walked in with a one year old, a diaper bag and some tasty ham roll-ups I whipped up for the occasion.
