Susan’s Journey: Five Fave Moments of Superbowl XLIV (44)

Football 101 Women Fans — we are so happy to have celebrated our first Superbowl with you. And the Saints were too — their first Superbowl run ended in victory — now, that’s the way to do it! As Lisa mentioned on our Facebook page, it wasn’t the most exciting game, but it had its moments. Below are my five fave moments of Superbowl XLIV.

* ETRADE babies and Bud Light featuring T Payne. Milkaholic, anyone? :) In my opinion, these commercials stole the show. Doritos Watch Yourself was a close second. If you haven’t seen them, click the links and enjoy!
* The Saints’ onside kick at the beginning of the second half – I learned that this play only works 18 percent of the time. Or maybe now it’s 19…
* Call Barney Stinson. Need I say more?
* The shots of Drew Brees holding baby son Baylen after the Saints’ big win — he just seems so nice. After all, he raised more than $4.5 million for charity!
* The Gridiron Gourmet as I like to call it. Chicken wings, cookies, wine, dip….hello Jillian Michaels workout.

So those are my fave moments of Superbowl 40. What were yours?!

Susan’s Journey: ‘Cause God Blessed Texas!

It was a cold December Saturday evening in Chicago. I dressed excitedly as I got ready for my “Girls’ Night” with friends from book club #2. Sangria and Cuban food at old Chicago favorite, Café 28, some Foleys, some fun. I had no idea that a football frenzy lay ahead of me…..

After dinner and a (what, $4??) vodka soda at karaoke spot Foley’s, the eight of us rushed over to Brownstone on Lincoln for our next stop. We were welcomed not with red and green as many would expect at this time of year, but Burnt Orange, and I mean everywhere. We stood amongst Texas Longhorn fans as they battled out the last few minutes of the game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (love that name!). You could feel the anticipation, the tension, loud and testosterone-filled. After all, they WERE losing….

Susan’s Journey: Victoria’s Secret, Big Hair and Mardi Gras

This week, I watched The New England Patriots vs. New Orleans Saints game on Monday Night Football – the entire game, girls. That might be a first for me as anyone who knows me well knows I have a hard time sitting down for nearly three hours straight.

Big game! As many of you might know, The New Orleans Saints were undefeated (11 straight wins) and their QB Drew Brees is one of NFL’s sweethearts at the moment.

On the other side, there was Tom Brady, who, as every man I know reminds me, is married to supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Even I admit – you must have SOMETHING to nab Miss Victoria’s Secret. I wonder if she wears the Very Sexy bra and Pink shorts around the house….

Susan’s Journey: Football 101 with the Chicago Bears

A few lessons learned from Chicago Bears equipment manager Tony Medlin:
• Players bring two jerseys to each game so they have a back-up
• The players must wear uniforms and equipment displaying logos of their brand sponsor or they are fined $$ (it’s different for every team, Brian Urlacher, for example is sponsored by Nike)
• The Chicago Bears lockers are organized by position
• The players’ shoes have their own carrying case!
• And Lisa asked the question everyone wanted to know – “why do the players wear elbow pads?” The Answer: To make their arms look bigger…ha

Did you know: What is Football 101 Women?

“When I got married I didn’t even know there were so may ESPN channels. When I try to get involved in my husband’s sports teams he turns me down, shuts me out and keeps on keeping on with the game, what do I do to be more involved?”

I screamed at the TV, “Ladies, that’s what Football 101 Women is for! We can help you learn about football from a ladies perspective and impress the pants off your man next time he shuts you out, turns you down and keeps on keeping on!”

Susan’s Journey: Football is like Glee Club

A fan on our Football 101 Women Facebook page posed a question recently: “Why do guys LOVE football so much?” Besides the beer, sexy cheerleaders and competition, what is it about football that attracts so many men across the globe?

But do you know what I really think?…Entertainment value: music, dancing and great outfits!

Football is like Glee Club…

Quote of the Week: Football with Susan’s Mom

“I don’t like those Bengal uniforms at all…they are kinda sissy.”

–Susan’s Mom

Unfortunately, Mom, the Bears cowered under the sissiness this week…
