FB 101: What do you think are 3-4 good resources/ways for women to learn football?
SB: One of the best ways is by some sort of common interest and rivalry and competition. “My school is better than your school; my city will beat your city.” Any sort of side competition makes the game more interesting. I don’t like to bet money but I do get people involved in Games like ESPN has the Pigskin Pick’em. It is a website that lets you set up teams an pick the winner of each game each week. There is a lot of luck in the guessing but several people who don’t know the game can still pick the winners. They can do there own research and still compete.
Another one I heard of was the 33 Club. 33 is an unusual number for teams to score. The way it works is you get a group of people who put in some cash every week (at least one person per team) if everyone puts in a dollar per week there will be a kitty off $18 per week. The pot builds each week and once a team scores 33 points the person than has that team wins the cash (Gambling is not legal in all states so make sure you are aware of the local rules).
Lastly friends and the internet are the best resource. Look up great plays on the internet and share them with friends it is easy with sights like YouTube. Ask friends who support a team and ask them why. You will get a lot of strange answers but it is interesting to see how people came up with there loyalties to a given team.
FB 101: Who do you think is the player to watch during the run for the Super bowl?
SB: Everyone will tell you the player to watch is Peyton Manning. He is an incredible passer. He understands the game and is a treat to watch. My choice of a person to watch is #93 Dwight Freeney of the Indianapolis Colts. I think he is the best pass rusher in the game and he is moving at full speed the entire game. Make sure you look for him.
FB 101: What are 2-3 of your favorite places to watch football?
SB: 1st is at a bar where there are people who have similar interest in my team. It is always fun to socialize in a sport environment because there is no longer a class distinction. A very wealthy person can sit next to a person with very modest wealth and they can chat all day about there common interest and what they feel their team needs to do to be successful.
I like to watch football at home because I can cheer at home act like a nut and the only person who sees me is me. The other place I enjoy watching a game is at a friend’s home. I find it enjoyable to watch a game amongst friends’ weather they are for my team or not. Lastly I like to watch a game at the game itself. I find that I miss more of the game because I am talking, ordering a beer(s).
Thank you so much for contributing Stephen. You should note that just because you are watching the game at home it doesn’t mean that your neighbors can’t here you hollering at the ref!
