Susan Football Journey
This week, I watched The New England Patriots vs. New Orleans Saints game on Monday Night Football – the entire game, girls. That might be a first for me as anyone who knows me well knows I have a hard time sitting down for nearly three hours straight.
Big game! As many of you might know, The New Orleans Saints were undefeated (11 straight wins) and their QB Drew Brees is one of NFL’s sweethearts at the moment.
On the other side, there was Tom Brady, who, as every man I know reminds me, is married to supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Even I admit – you must have SOMETHING to nab Miss Victoria’s Secret. I wonder if she wears the Very Sexy bra and Pink shorts around the house….
Anyways, it was quite a game, with the Saints reigning victorious (38 – 17).
Five lessons I learned:
- Find another sport or game you can relate to when trying to learn football. I spent countless summers watching my brother play baseball while growing up and dipped my toe in softball for a few years. So, when my BF was trying to explain the role of Free Safety, he said to compare it to a Center Fielder in baseball and bam, I got it!
- The first 15 plays of every game are scripted. That’s right, ladies. Fifteen! Of course, concessions are made when, say a touchdown is scored, but there really is strategy behind the game. I love men who plan.
- Saints cornerback Mike Mackenzie is cool. Big, beautiful hair. Great comeback after an injury. Lots of exciting interceptions and tackles to keep the fans focused!
- D # stands for Darren Sharper – Saints Free Safety. Might be the best interception returner in NFL history.
- New Orleans understands branding, – even while playing football. (Makes my marketing heart happy). Cheers to the New Orleans Whistle (hilarious costume) and Mardi Gras paraphernalia. Football IS fun!
